Integrated Optical Devices
High-speed internet has become an essential part of life for billions of people around the globe, thanks to the wide spread deployment of 4G LTE mobile and gigabit Passive Optical Networks (EPON and GPON) over the past five years. Deployment of next generation access networks – 5G mobile, 10G PON, and NG-PON2 networks – has already begun. Together, fixed and wireless access networks will consume more than 105 million optical modules in 2018, with a combined market value of $1 billion. This report examines how the latest 5G fronthaul and PON networks are reducing the opportunity for some types and speeds of optical modules, and dramatically increasing it for others.
